Executive Administrative Assistant
The military efficiency, precision, and proficiency Dacia Cooley brings to her role as executive administrative assistant to the Vice President for Research at Iowa State is a natural extension of her 12 years of experience in the Navy.
As an Operations Specialist Chief Petty Officer, Cooley’s primary job was to gather, process, display, and disseminate information from the Combat Information Center. She also served as an Air Intercept Controller for F-18 aircraft, controlling and maintaining flight safety for aircraft in combatting hostile airborne threats. By comparison, Dacia makes her key responsibilities of maintaining the calendars and general office management for the VPR and the OVPR associate vice presidents seem like a walk in the park.
Dacia’s military experience plus her educational background – a Bachelor of Science degree in Intelligence Management from Henley-Putnam School of Strategic Security – provided her with the skills she needed to quickly adapt and succeed in her new role when she started with the VPR office in April 2020, during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
What is your favorite Iowa State University discovery?
“There is a lot about the university that I am still discovering. However, Iowa State was my college of choice when I applied for the Seamen to Admiral program in 2006, because of its NROTC program – the only one in the state!”
