Dan Kirkpatrick
Strategic Communications Manager
If you’ve got a research story to share, communications manager Dan Kirkpatrick can help spread the word. His role with the Office of the Vice President for Research is to help shape Iowa State’s research narrative to create a greater understanding of its impact on university stakeholders and constituencies, including the role of research in fulfilling Iowa State’s land-grant mission.
Dan joined the office in May 2019 following a long career in communications, public relations, marketing, and brand development in the agricultural market. He holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural journalism from Iowa State.
What is Dan’s favorite Iowa State University discovery?
“I’m partial to the contributions Iowa State researchers made in the sequencing of both the corn and porcine genomes because of the invaluable roles they play in helping feed an ever-expanding world more productively, efficiently, and sustainably. I’m also fond of the invention of the large round hay baler, although my father didn’t adopt that technology on our family farm until I – the last of the cheap labor – left home for college!”
Dan can help with: Shaping the messages that tell the story about Iowa State’s positive research contributions, and identifying the audiences and channels through which to communicate those messages.
